Everyone wants that special night out with a magical feel where fantasy can meet reality. Masked balls are becoming increasingly popular and are a fabulous way of being part of a magical, fairytale evening.
The popularity of masked balls began in the 18th century and has remained strong to this day. In the olden days, these masks guaranteed the wearer anonymity, meaning that aristocrats could party with peasants, make shifty conspiracies, or indulge themselves in secret romantic liaisons! In today’s world, masquerade balls are all about having fun with fashion and partying the night away. Over the past few weeks we had customers at the boutique looking for masks to hire and buy for their Halloween parties, University parties, charity events, corporate events and even birthday parties!
Once again at Walk in Wardrobe, we have gone out of our way to source the most show stopping, gorgeous masks direct from Venice. These masquerade masks are striking with their jewels and feather plumes, are completely over the top and guaranteed to make you feel as glamorous and mysterious as an Edgar Allen Poe character!
Whichever mask you decide to go for, make sure you feel comfortable and have also got a glitzy dress to compliment it. Just think, when you go to a masked ball you are keeping alive one of the most truly glamorous, centuries old traditions, and long may it survive!
Each year we hold the exciting Walk in Wardrobe Prom Queen Competition, and 2012 was no exception! The competition this year was bigger and better than ever before with nearly 100 entrants and a prize of a beautiful glittering tiara, a stunning crystal dress ring and a £70 dress hire voucher. Every single entrant looked dazzling so we knew it was going to be tough enough to narrow it down to the 14 finalists let alone choose the winner. This year we were lucky enough to have the beautiful former Miss Brighton, Louise Eaton as our deciding judge.
When Louise came to the boutique and settled herself down in front of the finalists photos, one of the first things she said was ‘I’m looking for something really different and unique’. After taking time to look at the photos and agreeing that every girl looked stunning she decided on our winner, Sydnie, who went to her prom in our gorgeous leopard print tutu dress that was also seen on celebrity Kerry Katona on Celebrity Big Brother. When asked why she chose Sydnie, Louise said: ‘she is gorgeous with a genuine smile’. So without further ado, our Prom Queen 2012 was selected! Pictured right is the photo which won Sydnie the Prom Queen Crown 2012.
It was actually Sydnie’s lovely mum Sally who first spotted the dress at the boutique as she was passing one day. She thought that the dress would be perfect for her daughter’s prom, and how right she was! Both Sydnie and her mum were thrilled when she was announced the winner and we invited her to the boutique to collect her prizes and have a photo shoot with photographer Stuart Butcher.
There aren’t many girls who can look glam in wellies, but Sydnie entered the boutique after a rainy walk looking every inch the glamorous Walk in Wardrobe Prom Queen. Sydnie said that she was delighted to win the competition and that it was something she never expected. We had a so much fun at the boutique and we are so pleased that she had such a lovely time at her prom and that she received so many compliments on the night about the dress. She said that she was looking forward to wearing the dress again over the New Year celebrations and even said that her sister loved the dress so much that she was going to rent it from her!
Congratulations Sydnie, we are so pleased that you found your perfect prom dress with us and had a night to remember!

The celebs have been splashed all over the magazines this summer in this season’s hottest trend: sparkles! We have been busy at the boutique sourcing gorgeous sparkly bangles, hair bands and shoes for our lovely magpie-like customers, and it has become apparent to us this season that these little shining gems are more than just accessories, they are a real fashion statement! Check out our celebrity endorsed bangles here.
Alesha Dixon (right) shows us that glitzy bangles perfectly compliment a glamorous dress for a special event. However, we have noticed at the boutique that these gorgeous little dashes of sparkle are not only reserved for special events, they are perfect to add a touch of glamor to a casual outfit, Nicola McClean (below) shows us how!
We also have the most gorgeous, sparkly hair candy at the boutique at the moment to match up with the bangles, as seen on Gemma Collins from The Only Way is Essex! To see our hair sparkles click here.
